MARGARET AULL

Te Rarawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa
Margaret Aull is an artist and curator whose work spans painting, sculpture and installation. Of Te Rarawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, and Fijian Whakapapa, her practice explores cultural knowledge systems, ritual, identity and the social and political dimensions of Indigenous experience. Aull has exhibited in Aotearoa, Fiji, Australia, and the United States, including the Casablanca Biennale in Morocco in 2018.
Alongside her studio practice, she is an arts advocate working in strategy, project management, governance, and advisory groups, such as the Te Ātinga – Contemporary Visual Arts Committee, Creative New Zealand advisory forums, and iwi and regional arts networks.
She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Waikato University and a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design. She has worked for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa as Collection Curator, NZ Māori Arts and Crafts Institute as Gallery Manager and as project manager for Haumanu Collective. Her involvement with The Veiqia Project (revitalising Fijian tattooing practice) was recently recognised with the 2025 Pacific Heritage Art Award from Creative New Zealand.
