Erena Kara is an experienced Māori governance leader with extensive board, executive, and advisory experience across iwi, education, social services, and community development in Te Tai Tokerau. 

She currently serves as Chair of Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services and holds trustee and director roles with Hāpai Tūhono, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe, KTR Kara Ltd and Kara Contracting Ltd. 

Erena brings strong governance capability in strategy, organisational development, financial oversight, and Crown–iwi and community relationships. Her executive background includes senior leadership roles at Te Rūnanga ā Iwi o Ngāpuhi, including periods as Acting CEO, and as CEO of Te Kotahitanga E Mahi Kaha Trust. She holds a Master of Social Science (Community Psychology) and is a member of the Institute of Directors.
